Pinetum
Pinetums (py-NEE-tums) are displays devoted exclusively to cone-bearing trees and shrubs. The pinetum, located north of the rhododendron display along Pinetum Drive, contains about 300 species and varieties of conifers from around the world. Most are members of the Pine Family, including pines, spruces, first and hemlocks, but not all conifers are evergreens. Notable exceptions are larches, dawn redwoods, and bald-cypresses, which drop their needles in the fall, and ginkgos, the only conifers without needles. The pinetum is located north of the rhododendron display along Pinetum Drive.
