Horse Chestnuts & Buckeyes

Horse chestnuts and buckeyes (genus Aesculus) shade the walk west of the reservoir between Lamberton Conservatory and the lilac display. Highland's collection has over thirty species and hybrids of Aesculus. Many of Highland Park's specimens originated in Ellwanger and Barry's Mount Hope Nurseries. In May and June, the trees display erect clusters of white and pink flowers that resemble orchids.
